Liverpool's Wongs Jewellers claimed the top honors at the Merseyside Independent Business (MIB) Awards.

At the event held at the Titanic Hotel, approximately 500 attendees witnessed the family-run business being named Merseyside Independent Business of the Year 2024, as well as winning the Retailer of the Year award. A total of 13 awards were presented during the evening.

Other notable winners included Hope Street Hotel, tech company MyCardium AI, and mental health organisation Evolving Mindset. The MIBs were established in 2013 by Morecrofts Solicitors to recognize and celebrate independent businesses throughout the city region.

Alison Lobb, managing partner at Morecrofts, stated, “Independent businesses are the backbone of Merseyside’s economy, and it’s crucial to acknowledge the resilience and innovation they bring to our region. We are excited to celebrate their achievements and are inspired by the strong community spirit that connects these diverse enterprises.”

The headline sponsor of the MIBs was Liverpool BID Company. When announcing Wongs as the winner, Katie Bentley, director of strategic partnerships and communications, remarked, “The judges felt this business exemplified everything that makes an outstanding independent. Their entry showcased exceptional client care, approachability, engaging marketing campaigns, and a commitment to investing in the city region.”

She added that Wongs has developed a recognisable brand while staying local and providing exceptional service to its clients.
